“I can’t express how thankful we are for all the time and effort Mrs. Christian has put into tutoring our son. He has made so much progress in just a few months, and his confidence in reading and spelling has already increased. I feel like we finally have him heading in the right direction academically. Mrs. Christian is an answer to prayer and I am so grateful that my son loves coming to see her and is motivated to do this program. Thank you for your patience in helping him learn. You are truly a blessing to us.”

“Our son wasn’t diagnosed with dyslexia until 5th grade. Looking back however, there were many signs; family history, hours spent on homework that should have taken less than half the time to complete, memorizing spelling words for the weekly test, not reading at grade level and the most obvious but missed was dysgraphia.

He did not verbally communicate his struggles, he just said he hated school. His behavior at school was fine, in fact the teachers loved him but where we noticed problems were outbursts of anger and frustration during home and sports. We decided to hit a reset button and pull him from all things not related to school. We tried sending him to tutoring at Kumon, which only made things worse because he was sent home with lots more work to complete. We also would make him practice handwriting for a half an hour a day, again only making things worse.

After having him assessed the results came back that he was dyslexic. We were given references and avenues for the next steps. On the top of the list was getting him into tutoring with the Barton Reading and Spelling System, and Kelly Christian was the tutor recommended. When my husband and I took our son to meet Kelly she instantly built a rapport with him and she knew what we were struggling with.

He began tutoring with her two times a week. He didn’t fight going and we started to see positive changes right away. Not only did his grades start to improve, his attitude did as well. Using the new techniques she showed him, he started reading again and was even able to understand why words are spelled the way they are and how to break them down into the smaller root word. He has completed the 10 level program in just under 3 years.

Kelly made the sessions fun for him. Our son is a different student now, he understands what he’s learning and doesn’t hate school. By showing him the reasons why and the different tricks dyslexics can use to learn and remember, he was back at grade level and ready for high school. I would recommend any child struggling with dyslexia to be tutored by Kelly. She takes the time and makes sure they totally understand and are comfortable with the material before moving on to the next lesson. My son and Kelly have developed a great relationship through tutoring and he plans on popping in for a review from time to time but really just to say hi and beat her at one of the games they always played.

Update -

Our son is now entering his junior year playing 2 sports and maintaining a 3.3 to 3.5 GPA."

“I can’t recommend Kelly (Vantage Point Tutoring) enough! I was overwhelmed when our son’s third grade teacher suggested that he was struggling and needed help; however, after meeting Kelly I knew she would be a great fit for our son. Having a child with special needs can be scary and she does such an amazing job of building his confidence and really making dyslexia “no big deal”. His confidence has dramatically increased and I can see the impact tutoring has had on his grades! Now that he is aware that he learns differently, he uses a new approach to reading, writing and spelling and it is a whole new world for him. His spelling has improved so much, we asked to increase tutoring sessions throughout the week because we see the difference it is making. Plus, Kelly is super flexible, totally understating and extremely patient. It takes a village to raise children and I am grateful she is a part of our team.”
